Amsterdam-based startup Reson8 has secured €5 million in pre-Seed funding to develop advanced speech AI infrastructure tailored for the European market. This significant investment, led by Balderton Capital, will bolster Reson8's efforts to build hyper-customised automatic speech recognition (ASR) models and expand its Europe-based hardware presence. The company's mission is to provide a foundational speech layer for Europe, focusing on accuracy, customisation, and data sovereignty. Reson8 addresses a critical gap in current speech AI, where English-centric models falter with the linguistic diversity of Europe. Their innovative approach utilizes small, adaptable "plug-in" adapters that fine-tune models in real-time using contextual data, enhancing accuracy for specific languages, dialects, and industry jargon without compromising performance. This allows for specialized models that accurately recognize medical terminology, legal jargon, and brand-specific language, offering a superior alternative to generic, less precise solutions. This development is particularly significant for European digital sovereignty, offering businesses a compelling alternative to US hyperscale providers.
