**Europe Joins Forces to Develop Sovereign Generative AI for Public Administration**

European governments are actively pursuing a collaborative approach to developing and implementing generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, aiming to enhance digital sovereignty and compliance. The newly launched EuropAI project, involving the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, and Luxembourg, signifies a crucial step in accelerating the adoption of trustworthy AI within public administrations across the continent. This initiative seeks to counter the current reliance on non-EU AI technologies, which often fall short of stringent European data protection and sovereignty requirements.

EuropAI will establish a secure environment for member states to collaboratively build, test, and share generative AI applications. Key components include the development of shared infrastructure, implementation blueprints, compliance frameworks, and a unified platform. The project is focused on deploying these European-developed AI solutions in three core areas: streamlining legal and administrative processes, enhancing urban analysis and spatial planning, and creating digital assistants for citizen engagement.

This project is structured across four work packages, covering project management, an implementation framework, the development and piloting of generative AI solutions, and impact assessment alongside community engagement. As part of the broader GenAI4EU network, EuropAI aligns with the Digital Europe Programme and national digital strategies, contributing to strengthened European AI capabilities and infrastructure. The initiative is coordinated by the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
