Mastodon

Mastodon is a free, open-source social network developed by the German non-profit Mastodon. Unlike centralized platforms like Facebook or X (Twitter), Mastodon functions as a decentralized network of independent servers that communicate with each other via the open ActivityPub protocol. The European Commission and several EU institutions use Mastodon for their official communication. The source code is fully open and verifiable.
